Founded in 1961, Wellborn Cabinet employs 1,336 workers within its expanding manufacturing footprint in Alabama.
Wellborn Cabinet’s growth plans come at a time of growing demand for its products. Last year, the company announced its intention to $15 million project at its Ashland campus to add a planing mill, paint facility, healthcare, and expanding manufacturing facilities for its workforce.
“As we looked for areas of expansion opportunities, we wanted to continue our growth in the State of Alabama,” said Chairman and CEO Paul Wellborn. “Oxford was very accommodating and helpful throughout the process.
“The new location will be close to Interstate 20 and a broader workforce, both of which are critical to our success.”
Wellborn Cabinet is one of the largest cabinetmakers in North America and the largest industrial employer in rural Clay County. Its new 60-acre location in the Oxford West Industrial Park in Talladega County will expand its presence in eastern Alabama.
Construction of the project is expected to begin in the spring of 2023 and start of operations in the fall of 2024.
Calhoun County officials said the Wellborn expansion project will have a major impact on the Oxford area in eastern Alabama.
“Wellborn Cabinet’s decision to choose Oxford as the next location for a production facility demonstrates the level of commitment of the City of Oxford and the Economic Development Board to bringing world-class business to our new industrial park,” said said Mayor Alton Craft. said. “Our citizens will benefit from the economic impact that accompanies the arrival of Mr. Wellborn and his company here for many generations.
“Our workforce efforts continue to explode here, and we’re on everyone’s radar now. Oxford is the place to be,” he said.
Calhoun County Economic Development Board Chairman Larry Deason said he was excited about the opportunity to work with Wellborn Cabinet.
