OXO Good Grips 3 Piece Mixing Bowl Set Review

Although I have always loved food and have long dabbled in baking, overall my culinary prowess has been limited. But my 2022 New Year’s resolution was to become a better cook — and at least now, nine months into the year, I’ve started to gain a foothold in the kitchen. In fact, I can confidently say that I have mastered the preparation, slicing, dicing, marinating and much more. I owe much of this success to one product in particular: the OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set.

In general, I like all things OXO. I have never used any of the brand’s products and not got the hype right away. OXO has long been renowned for its kitchen utensils to solve problems— items that are just above the competition in terms of ease of use, ergonomics and general maneuverability. Most of their products look simple at first glance, but once you start using them, you’ll understand why they’ve attracted such a large fan base and why they also cost a bit more than the average kitchen gadget.

In the case of the bowl set, all of the above is true – in fact, these are now the only stainless steel mixing bowls I use. Unlike typical stainless steel bowls, which tend to be too light and barely there (and can be easily scratched), OXO bowls are much tougher and the manufacturer claims they are also scratch resistant (a claim which I would save). The bowls come in three sizes, each nesting into the next, and I use all three. The larger bowls (3 and 5 quarts, respectively) are my go-to tools for cooking, marinating, and storing leftovers, while the smaller bowl (1.5 quarts) is the perfect size for a portioned salad. individual. It can also withstand the aggressive cutting I put my vegetables through right inside the bowl – and it doesn’t result in a single scratch in the process. (Fun fact: I use the OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper to recreate my favorite chopped salad recipes at home.)

It’s not just the fact that they’re sturdy that makes them so special, though. Each mixing bowl is also designed with a non-slip silicone bottom, so they’re stable on my counters, and that’s true whether they’re placed flat or used at an angle. Plus, each stainless steel bowl features a heat-resistant plastic outer liner that protects hands from extreme temperatures, so you can place hot or cold ingredients inside without exposing your hands to the elements.

To top it off, the set is dishwasher safe and I have found it holds up well in the fridge and freezer as well. Available in several different colors (all white is offered in addition to the gray and blue trio I’ve shown here), these bowls really address all the irritations I’ve had with traditional stainless steel mixing bowls. . Now I can’t imagine my time in the kitchen without them.
