At OnMilwaukee, we believe in raising all voices and using our platform to support the dreams of others. And that’s what we hope to do for Dominic the Food Reviewer. When I first met Dominic almost two years ago, I was impressed by his passion, curiosity and interest in improving his writing. Over time, I not only enjoyed getting to know him better, but he taught me as much as I taught him. I hope you not only enjoy reading Dominic’s reviews, but also understanding and enjoying seeing the world of food through his eyes. — Lori Fredrich, Editor-in-ChiefI recently tried Etcetera Bar and Grill. It is located at 118 E Wisconsin Ave. in Oconomowoc near Lake Fowler.
I had the honor of meeting the owners Brian Borkowski, Tammy, her husband Jason and Chef Alex. Alex was the leader of Stolley’s Hog Alley. Brian said he also operates the bar next door, Vino.
Brian says he absolutely loves people. He used to have a corporate job at Kohl’s department store; but he lost his job during COVID-19, and now he enjoys owning a restaurant and going out and socializing with people more in the community.
The restaurant opened in April 2021. It was a bowling alley at one point and then the Lakerz Bar. The original bowling alley floor is still under the new restaurant and bar floor. The building has been around since 1948. Jason added that they are building a brand new rooftop patio that will also overlook Lake Fowler.
The Etcetera can accommodate larger celebrations like birthdays, weddings, hen parties and more in their large back room. It is a family place with all kinds of games for children. There are games that include basketball, darts, ski ball, pool table and arcade games.
They serve all kinds of pub type food here. They have just started serving breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to noon. They also have fried fish on Fridays. Brian added that they are most popular for their cheese curds, pizzas and hand-breaded chicken tenders. All of their rubs and sauces are homemade. In fact, they just won the people’s choice award in the town of Oconomowoc for their Bloody Marys and Chilli.
I got to try the colucci pizza with dollops of cream cheese, onions, cheese and more. I really have to say the pizza tasted great creamy and smooth. The crust had a perfect crisp.
Their cheese curds have no breading. They are frozen while dipped in Pabst Blue Tape. Brian said he was a huge Pabst fan.
The cheese curds were so perfectly creamy and warm. I have never seen this kind of cheese curds served anywhere else. They were perfectly well made and delicious.
These buffalo wings, I have to mention, were super tasty. The sauces had the right amount of kick going for them.
This Swiss Mushroom Burger was huge when it came out. It was both juicy and cheesy to perfection.
My half Philly cheese steak was also huge. I cut it in half. It definitely hit the spot and was very filling.
Their chicken tenders are their best kept secret because they are hand breaded and not just frozen like you’ll find in a grocery store.
These hand breaded chicken tenders just shaken. I liked that the breading had a nice, thin layer on it. They give you a ton of chicken fillets. These are by far my all time favorite chicken tenders I’ve had so far. Their home fries were also tasty. I always love potato chips when they’re homemade.
After eating and playing games with Brian. This was one of the funniest reviews I’ve done. Brian and I were shooting hoops together and I was shooting darts like there was no tomorrow.
I would highly suggest trying this restaurant and bar as their food is one of a kind and it’s so much fun here. This place is so awesome to hang out if you’re looking to go somewhere in Oconomowoc. I even met a new group of friends while I was crushing these games. They were super social, positive, kind and such a pleasure to have conversations about food and other topics. I look forward to returning very soon.
Thank you, Brian, for inviting me to your restaurant and playing games with me. Etcetera rock people.
