A dish from the south that you just have to try


With all due respect to the amazing fried green tomatoes that many of us love to eat. Dipped in ranch dressing of course. Well Saint Whistle Stop Cafe you just have to try this new take on fried tomatoes.

Fried ripe red tomatoes! Yes. This combo is full of flavors that will put it in your watch pocket. Do not trust me. Give it a try.

Moisture is the enemy of a crispy crust on a ripe fried tomato. To remove excess moisture, thinly slice the tomatoes and let them dry on a paper towel. Prepare a dough with buttermilk and eggs in which to dip them, before sliding them in a mixture of corn flour and Parmesan cheese.

Quickly fry the tomato slices in hot oil to sear the crust, but do not overcook the inside. Fry 2 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.


-Ripe red tomatoes


– Cup of buttermilk

-Big egg


-All purpose flour

-Grated parmesan

-Salt and pepper

-Cayenne pepper

-Vegetable oil

– Lemon wedges


Use two forks to quickly turn the tomatoes. This recipe can easily be doubled and cooked in batches.

Transfer to a dish and sprinkle with basil. Serve with lemon wedges. Dip in ranch dressing if desired.

The fried red tomatoes are so delicious. More restaurants should serve this dish.
