Winn-Dixie celebrated the opening of two newly renovated stores in Lakeland on Wednesday with modern facades and a fresh coat of paint as well as more food choices, a Winn-Dixie press release said.

Stores are located at 6902 S. Florida Ave. and at 2900 Lakeland Highlands Road, which also acquired a new liquor store.

The grocer also presented checks to Oscar J. Pope Elementary School and Lakeland Elks Lodge #1291 during ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Wednesday. Opening celebrations are expected to continue on Saturday.

Winn-Dixie gathered feedback from shoppers and employees before revamping its Lakeland stores.

Throughout opening week, Winn-Dixie said he would be hosting live entertainment and in-store giveaways. On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be draws for $100 gift cards every 30 minutes and special draws will be held at each store at noon to win a Yeti Cooler, Smoker Grill and Weather Alert Radio/ TV.

Weekend community celebrations are free and open to the public.

The remodels were influenced by the feedback Winn-Dixie garnered

The renovations were influenced by feedback Winn-Dixie gathered from local buyers and employees that led to increased convenience, additional choices and aesthetic elements, Winn-Dixie said.

Produce departments have added organic varieties, the deli department now offers lunch and dinner options. Liquor stores added new wines and spirits.

Enhanced food selections include an expanded selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh take-out selections, Winn-Dixie said. Delicatessens now offer daily updated self-service hot meals, roast chicken, multi-flavored wing bars, and prepared sandwiches and salads.

Employees and shoppers gave their thoughts on the remodeled Winn-Dixie stores in Lakeland.

Self-service donuts and a larger selection of cakes, fresh breads and more can now be found in the bakery. Certified Angus Beef selections have been added to the meat aisle.

The seafood department has been upgraded to offer a variety of seafood on ice, additional frozen seafood, as well as “seafood made easy” packaged to be prepared at home with vegetables and seasonings.

Natural and organic selections were added to all stores, along with an updated health and beauty section and floral department.

The Lakeland Highlands liquor store is brand new, while the South Florida Avenue location has been remodeled, both adding a larger selection of liquor.

Winn-Dixie Enhanced Stores are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new Lakeland Highlands liquor store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The South Florida Avenue liquor store is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
